Adaisha Miller was celebrating the weekend before her 25th birthday, when she was fatally shot Sunday when she hugged an off-duty police officer while dancing at a party. The officer's service weapon fired because of the hug, according to the police and her mother. The shooting happened at an outdoor party sometime after 12 am. according to the newsone.com
She “embraced the officer from behind, causing the the holstered weapon to accidentally go off.” the bullet punctured Miller's lungs and hit her heart, and died at the hospital.
The case is being investigated, and the Detroit officer will remain on administrative duties while they go continue to clear his name by reporting their findings.
“For this to happen to her, whether they want to call it freak accident or mistake in judgment, it should have never happened to my child, and there’s nothing I can do to get her back,” McNair told WDIV-TV.
